Poll: Bush disapproval ratings reach new record

CNN: “As President-elect Obama visits the White House, a new national poll suggests that the current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue is the most unpopular president in the six decades since presidential approval ratings were first measured.”

Lost Humor

So now that Bush is leaving office and Palin didn’t get elected, who are we going to laugh at? These two clowns made for perfect jokes. Shall we live in the past a little? Here, we have Palin not knowing that Africa is a continent and what countries constitute the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Wow.

Tonight – President-Elect Barack Hussein Obama

We voted, they counted, he won, we won. First and foremost I think it’s important to thank Sarah Palin… for effectively torpedoing McCain’s presidential bid. Thank you. Second, I think it’s important to post Obama’s email congratulating the people who made his campaign:

“I’m about to head to Grant Park to talk to everyone gathered there, but I wanted to write to you first.

We just made history.

And I don’t want you to forget how we did it.

You made history every single day during this campaign — every day you knocked on doors, made a donation, or talked to your family, friends, and neighbors about why you believe it’s time for change.

I want to thank all of you who gave your time, talent, and passion to this campaign.

We have a lot of work to do to get our country back on track, and I’ll be in touch soon about what comes next.

But I want to be very clear about one thing…

All of this happened because of you.

Thank you,

Barack”

After leaving the elections party, I passed through Harvard Square to catch a small celebration that quickly mushroomed into a massive street celebration that brought traffic to a halt, but that was hardly a problem because the cars on the road were part of the celebration. And why not celebrate? It was a landslide. He more than doubled McCain’s electoral vote count. And at 2am, it was just announced that Obama took Indiana as well. Nice, he is the undisputed winner of the election. November 4, 2008, what a night! See you at Inauguration Day on January 20, 2009.

Tomorrow

Tomorrow is the big day. More than 20 million people have already voted as 2/3 of the country has been engaged in early voting. I’ll be voting in Massachusetts after my classes end and I’m excited to be a part of history. This campaign is ours. I donated and many of my friends have gone to battleground states and knocked on doors and made phone calls. I wish I could have done more but I’ve been locked down in my dorm room with school work while trying to make plans for after I finish my master’s degree.
I’ve followed the election season religiously, even while I was in the Middle East this past summer. And after so long, it all comes to an end tomorrow. And if the polls are accurate and Republicans play fair, Obama will be this nation’s 44th president.
To find a polling booth near you, go here. And if you still need motivation to vote, see this hilarious video. Talk to you when it’s all over. Keep your fingers crossed.

Obama and Rashid Khalidi

So now McCain’s smear campaign is accusing Obama of being associated with Columbia University professor Rashid Khalidi, an outspoken critic of Israel. Read about it here. So let me get this straight? First having Hussain as a middle name was suspect, then some accused him of being a Muslim, as if that was a crime, and now he’s guilty for being associated with a brilliant scholar who is justifiably critical of Israel. None of these are legitimate talking points. What is a big deal, however, is the fact that McCain and Bush are not only friends, but a tag team in DC. Now that’s really incriminating.

Second Gaza activist voyage docks

BBC: A boat carrying 27 pro-Palestinian activists has arrived in Gaza despite an Israeli blockade of the territory – the second such voyage in three months. The ship, named Dignity, arrived at 0800 (0600 GMT) on Wednesday, after sailing from Cyprus overnight. No attempt was made to stop the boat, despite initial Israeli warnings. Israel has greatly restricted the movement of people and goods to and from Gaza since Hamas militants seized control of the Strip last year. The vessel’s crew includes Nobel Peace Prize winner Mairead Corrigan Maguire, Palestinian parliamentarian Mustafa Barghouthi and left-wing Israeli activist Gideon Spiro.

No Time to Celebrate

of course, Israel does NOT speak for world Jewry, just like the Islamic Republic of Iran does not speak for the world’s Muslims, even though both regimes claim to do so. Here are some brave Jewish voices against ethnic cleansing of Palestine.
