“The Battle of Algiers”

The most explosive film of the 1960s is now the most important film of 2004 – caption to the theatrical re-release. See the trailer here.

This is one of my favorite films and is one of the most influential movies ever made. It is available on DVD so privilege yourself to a viewing.

It is a phenomenal film, everyone should see it. Palestine, Iraq, they all apply to what happened in Algeria. It is ironic to see people on the side of colonialism these days.

  2. Jamshid says:

I have to get around to seeing it.

How about reading a god damn book about the Algerian Resistance movement to French colonialism? Again, the intellectual laziness of the blogger is confirmed and exposed. Alan Dershowits would be proud.

I’ll tell you what, why don’t you show your worth and set up your own blog since you seem to think it’s an easy job.
By the way, I read recently relevant chapters from a book on the Algerian Revolution titled “A Savage War of Peace” and much of it was taken from the same source in which “Battle of Algiers” is based, Saadi Yacef’s autobiography. In other words, the movie is not just a film but a historical document so perhaps you should see the movie before you jump to conclusions.

  5. :) says:

LOL! So, instead of writing about the book and referencing it, you use a movie that was based on it to show yor seriousness??!! You know, Alan Dershowtiz also used a movie as a reference in his book about Black September. also based on a book. Harvard has taught you well (or not).
Don’t worry, you’ll never be as retarded as Arash the chunky fat ugly big nosed occupation soldier.

  6. Ali says:

Dude, who is this smiley faced child? The Battle of Algiers IS a great historical piece.

  7. Jewish-Zionist says:

So what happened smiley face? Israel killed at least 10 Islamic Jihad terrorists, including their Gaza Strip commander!
What happened to the dark days you predicted for Israel? It looks like Israel is kicking ass and you are losing : )
Not even one civilian was killed in the process either. I’m proud of Israel for courageously defending itself while leaving civilians out of the process. Well, if they get smiley face it’s okay I won’t lose any sleep LOL!! hahahhahaha

This is Iran’s REAL policy towards the Palestinians, supporting fanatical Shiite death squads:
“Hundreds of Palestinian refugees who’ve been forced out of their homes in Iraq are stranded in a remote stretch of the Syrian desert, where they’re living in tents that offer little shelter against blinding sandstorms and the biting cold of winter nights, according to humanitarian aid workers and refugees.”

What happened? Got no response smiley face? How pathetic. : )~

Iran’s policies have never helped the Palestinians — only made them suffer more. Israel’s policies — like pulling out of Gaza — have shown the world that the Palestinians can’t manage their own state.

Face it, smiley, you’re wrong. And Israel is much more powerful and well off than you could ever think. You might as well start writing checks to AIPAC. Hey smiley, if you can’t beat’em, join’em!

  10. :) says:

There is nothing to say, you say Israel is “powerful”. Thats just a descriptive term you subscribe to, its meaningless. Its not like you made any factual assertions, like Israel’s GDP/capita is higher than the UAE’s. Remember that?? LOL!!

  11. :) says:

Oh, and JZ, lets talk a little about “pulling out of Gaza”. Did Palestinians gain soverignty over the Gaza strip after Sharon’s pullout of settlers? Lets talk about some factual realites, shall we?

  12. Jewish-Zionist says:

What’s the matter? Can’t come up with new material to attempt to corner me? LOL! Israel built its economy from the ground up. The UAE uses its oil wealth to contract outsiders (whether entrepreneurs or Pakistani guest workers) to build projects. Its Arab money with Western innovation. Israel, on the other hand, is Jewish-American money with Israeli Zionist innovation.

The one factual reality here that is obvious to everyone is that you are pathetic, smiley face : )~
