When allegedly being Muslim is bad politics…

“‘If I were a Muslim I would let you know,’ Barack Obama has said, and I believe him. In fact, he is a practicing Christian, a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ. He is not now a Muslim. But was he ever a Muslim or seen by others as a Muslim?”

“The candidate for president of the United States has delivered two principal statements in reply. His campaign website carries a statement dated Nov. 12 with the headline, ‘Barack Obama Is Not and Has Never Been a Muslim,’ followed by: Obama never prayed in a mosque. He has never been a Muslim, was not raised a Muslim, and is a committed Christian.’
[It’s as if he has to deny ever being Muslim so as to safeguard his political career: “No no, please, don’t mistake me for one of those… I’m NOT a Muslim… you can still vote for me.” Imagine if they accused him of having a Jewish background as if that were a bad thing… there would be an uproar with accusations of anti-semitism everywhere. Of course, the same standard is not applied to Islam and people attack candidates for their perceived Islamic background as legitimate smear campaigns.]

    Pouya:

It seems to me that you should be having this debate with someone like Ann Coulter who has alienated the Jewish people by her remark regarding the Jew’s “imperfection” compared to the Christians.

Your blog appeals to people (Arash excluded) who, like yourself, wish to see the entire Christianity and its Bible, Judaism and its Torah, and Islam and its Quran go away and vanish from the face of this planet. The American Theocracy (now upheld by the Presidential Candidate, Hikabu), the Islamic fundamentalism promoted by the likes of Osama bin Laden/Taliban and a bunch of Ayatollah’s in IRI, as well as the whole Jewish faith as supported by Israel/AIPAC and Arash – are a mere impediment and an affront to human progress on this planet. The sooner we get rid of all of them and place them in museums in Vatican, Qom, or the Wailing Wall – the better for human evolution.

So, I do not understand why you are getting at the middle of an argument as to whether a Muslim is or is not at a disadvantage (versus a Jew or a Christian) in running for the US presidency?

What are you driving at? Within the context of “getting rid of all three awful, yet established” religions, what is your stand on separation of religion and state? Shouldn’t all presidential candidates dismiss all three religions without fearing to lose any vote? Why are you trying to push the idea that if one is Islamic, then he/she may be at a disadvantage compared to a Christian or a Jewish candidate?

After all, if the whole concept of God is a mere figment of human imagination – then almost all the three main religions on this planet should be dumped in the garbage of the past 2500 years history.
