Glenn Greenwald: “Six years ago, when America and Europe were putting in place the first raft of measures to press Iran to come clean over its nuclear ambitions, the talk was of “smart” sanctions. The West, it was stressed, had no quarrel with the Iranian people—only with a regime that seemed bent on getting a nuclear bomb, or at least the capacity for making one. Yet, as sanctions have become increasingly punitive in the face of Iran’s intransigence, it is ordinary Iranians who are paying the price.”
The purpose of the sanctions are to starve the public. That is the goal. It has been for 33 years. The hope is that people will rise up against their own government. Or as Symor Hersch put it in his 2006 article from his sources in the pentagon, to bring Iran into starvation, revolt, division, and ultimate separation into six peaces. California Congressman has currently sponsored a bill that would mandate the US government to slice Iran into Six peaces, just as Mr. Hersch warned us 6 years ago. The idea would be that under such circumstances “the international community” would come into the aid of the Iranian people with food shipments, just as the pictures we have seen from Africa. To do that a beach head must be stablished to “assist the starving Iranians.” Allies would occupy Iran’s shores in the Persian Gulf. And Iran would be left as another starving country needing Western generosity for several decades, meanwhile the nation would be allowed to splinter.
