If Ervand Abrahamian is one of the speakers, then it must be a quality event. Go here to see if the lecture tour will happen in a city near you.
Nationwide Lecture Tour Against War with Iran
Iranian-Americans Support Dialogue
NIAC: Iranian Americans overwhelmingly support dialogue and diplomacy between the United States and Iran, a scientific poll conducted by the University of California, Berkeley shows. Support for military strikes against Iran is minimal in the community. This stands in stark contrast to sentiments in the Iraqi-American community, who tended to support the invasion of Iraq in 2003.
“We want change”
I don’t want to be perceived as legitimizing this two-party regime, but I must say, Obama is exciting.
Guiliani Calls It Quits
What a relief and Edwards did the same! Now if only the rest of the front runners, Republican and Democrat alike, would follow suit. Although I must say, out of all the front runners, I dislike Obama the least. Too bad Kucinich didn’t have a chance in this two-party regime and too bad we’re left to choose between doody and vomit.
State of the Union Address
How convenient is it that the Bush Administration supports “freedom in countries from Cuba and Zimbabwe to Belarus and Burma” and fails to mention that it supports tyranny and dictatorship in Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Egypt. Let me guess, if the said countries opposed US policy to rule the world, the Bush Administration would be supporting “freedom” there too.
As for Iran, the lame-duck president said [with my own inserts added]: “Our message to the people of Iran is clear: We have no quarrel with you [yet the US just armed a dictator that oppressed the nation]. We respect your traditions and your history [this is said to appease ultra-nationalist Iranians who think they have a friend in the White House]. We look forward to the day when you have your freedom [“freedom” or partition?]. Our message to the leaders of Iran is also clear: Verifiably suspend your nuclear enrichment, so negotiations can begin. And to rejoin the community of nations, come clean about your nuclear intentions and past actions, stop your oppression at home, cease your support for terror abroad [I’m sorry, but Iran does not support Israel, but the US does!]. But above all, know this: America will confront those who threaten our troops. We will stand by our allies [dictator regimes], and we will defend our vital interests in the Persian Gulf [does anyone else sense the rampant imperialist tone in this statement or is it just me?].”
It’s as if the intelligence report about Iran’s nuclear program never came to light.
Heath Ledger’s Death Rekindles Homophobia
[This is disgusting!!!]
Members of the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kan., are trying to find out where the 28-year-old actor’s funeral will be held and have already made signs to hold outside the Oscars that read “God Hates Fags and Fag Enablers,” “Heath in Hell” and “Mourn for Your Sins,” Shirley Phelps-Roper, daughter of the church’s controversial founder Pastor Fred Phelps, told ABCNEWS.com. Read about it again here and here.
Oscar Nominations ’08
“Persepolis” is nominated for Best Animated Film. “No Country for Old Men” and “There Will Be Blood,” both of which I’ve seen recently and liked very much, were nominated for 8 awards each. I still have to see “Juno” and “Michael Clayton” before the Oscars. Here’s a complete list of the nominees… and I’m still shocked about Heath Ledger’s death. Here’s the trailer to his last film, “Dark Knight.” Seems like he stole the show.
Heath Ledger found dead…
I was really sad to hear about his death… I really really respected him as an actor. See the BBC’s “Life in Film” video.
Some tributes: “I had such great hope for him,” said Oscar-winning actor-director Mel Gibson. “He was just taking off and to lose his life at such a young age is a tragic loss.”
In 2001, Mr Gibson had cast Ledger to play his son in the American war of independence epic, The Patriot.
“What a terrible tragedy. My heart goes out to his family,” said fellow Australian actress Nicole Kidman.
American actor John Travolta, who was in Australia at the time of Ledger’s death, said the young actor had been one of his favourite performers.
“His abilities are rare…it’s a tremendous loss,” said Mr Travolta.

www.IranNegah.com
A new site has been launched that is sort of like an Iranian youtube with a political twist. Whether you like the politics or not, the website, nevertheless serves as a video archive and gives us access to some contemporary footage… and it has cool videos like this one.
